With change to the weather from last week the Manors wicket was looking hard, dry and green, something in it for both bowlers and batters.
With Nobby Jnr losing the toss once again, Hursley decided to bat. As predicted when Jam and Damo hit the deck on the right length, the ball seamed making it hard for Hursleys opening bats. However when pitched in the bats half, an agricultural swing of the bat was enough to chip the ball just over fielders, and on one particular occasion for a well struck 6 into the horse paddock. With this game plan Hurlsey posted 50 off 8 overs before the big hitting Bat was clean bowled by Damo missing a straight one. Next to the bowling attack came Craig and Nobby Jnr, where 4 wickets fell, 2 a piece, on one particular wicket Craig turned the ball square, clean bowling the other opener. To finish the innings, Nobby Snr bowled his first spell of the season bowling tight areas tying one end up, whilst Ali Cheyno bowled very well to take 3 wickets at the end of the innings. Hurlsey finished off with 153 for 8.
During the interval, virgin tea lady, Lucy Holland created a spectacular spread, including some very tasty fruit skewers. Unusual to Langleys standard diet, one member commented, ‘Fruit!! What’s this all about, why are they not deep fat fried in batter!!!
A superb batting display was seen, with Hollers and Noble Jnr batting 24 overs, posting a rare 110 run opening partnership. Both openers knew that there was no rush, so no risks were taken. Hollers knocked the ball around, rotating the strike and more importantly kept the score board ticking over, whilst also playing some wonderful shots through the offside when the time was right to get after the bad ball. Hollers’ wise head seemed to rub off on Noble Jnr, as he played a very sensible knock of 74 before he was clean bowled. New to the crease Ali needed very few balls to get his eye in before he scored a very confident 30 including 2 massive 6s over cover and COW, before nicking off to the keeper. Hollers’ (30) fine display then fell short after being given out LBW of the openers 2nd spell. This left Stevie and Damo to finish off the innings, with the final runs being hit with a fine flat cover drive to the rope by stevie.
Good work boys!!!!! 23 pointage
Next week sees the 1’s travel to Pywell park.
